DE ROSSI GIVES ITALY THREE CRUCIAL POINTS AGAINST BULGARIA
Italy recorded three vital points in Palermo against Bulgaria and remained top of Group H with 18 points after being temporarily overtaken by Norway who won in the earlier game against Croatia by 2 goals to 0. This is the second victory for the Azzurri in the space of three days. Both the game against Malta and Sunday night’s clash with Bulgaria finished 1-0 to Italy. It was Daniele De Rossi who scored the only goal of the night from the penalty spot in the sixth minute.
"We managed to get six points in those two games," said Conte after the final whistle, "that was our only aim. Of course it is disappointing that the games stayed balanced for so long in spite of all the chances we created. All it takes then is for one slip up at the back or a bit of luck for the opposition and it can cost you the three points. We have to be more clinical. Nevertheless, I am pleased with the effort shown by everyone in my team."
