Serie A TIM

AS ROMA 1-0 CAGLIARI

AS Roma were seeking victory to keep them in touch with the top three against a Cagliari side that had suffered just one defeat in five. Patrik Schick made his first start at the Olimpico alongside Edin Dzeko, who was restored to the attack.

With the visitors getting ten men behind the ball, chances were few and far between for Eusebio Di Francesco’s men in the first 45 minutes.

A penalty early in the second half gave the home side the perfect opportunity to break the ice but Diego Perotti saw his tame spot-kick saved.

Deep into added-time Federico Fazio sent the Olimpico wild though the referee only increased the drama by going to the VAR before awarding the goal.

There was relief in the celebrations for the AS Roma players and despair in defeat for their Cagliari counter-parts. The result strengthened the Giallorossi’s hold on fourth place and set them up nicely for the trip to Juventus next weekend.
