ANCELOTTI: "WE PLAYED SOME GREAT FOOTBALL"

Carlo Ancelotti has been analysing Napoli’s 2-0 win against Sassuolo at the Stadio San Paolo.

The coach was pleased with the performance but urged his side to improve their finishing: "We played some great football but we need to be more clinical. We started really well, playing fluid, sparkling football. However, when you’re performing like this, you really have to take your chances. We weren’t able to score the second goal, which would have killed off the game. Later on, however, we managed the match intelligently and when we did eventually score, it was the result of patience and balance. The team showed maturity because this Sassuolo team aren’t easy to beat. We found it tough after not doubling our lead immediately. This is something we need to improve".

A feature of this Napoli team is Ancelotti’s frequent squad rotation: "I don’t change the formation often on a whim; it’s more that I’m confident in the quality of these lads. They all train hard and professionally. Any player with this mentality is ready to play. To keep progressing, we need to be united and ready for anything. A squad gains consistency when every single member can contribute".

Lorenzo Insigne is one player who seems to be benefitting from Ancelotti’s management style: "Lorenzo has stepped up his fitness and motivation. I hope and I’m confident he’ll continue being humble and working hard because he’s such a talented player".
