#STOPIRACY - PIRACY KILLS FOOTBALL

The Lega Serie A campaign against audiovisual piracy will be promoted on all pitches on the occasion of the 1st and 2nd Round of the 2022/2023 Serie A.

Lega Serie A's fight against audiovisual piracy, a criminal phenomenon that in the last year alone has stolen a turnover of €1.7 billion from all Italian economic sectors, continues unabated.

315 million the overall estimate of piracy acts among the adult population
716 million the potential damage on the Italian economy in terms of GDP
9,400 the potential estimate of employment at risk
51% the overall incidence among the under-15s
(2021 FAPAV/Ipsos survey)

Every action of contrast and deterrence is extremely important in facing a dramatic phenomenon that drains resources out of the football system.

In order to fight the illegal streaming of sports content and raise awareness of the risks involved, on the occasion of the 1st and 2nd Round of the 2022/2023 Serie A, Lega Serie A will promote its #STOPIRACY - PIRACY KILLS FOOTBALL campaign, broadcasting the initiative's video spot on the stadiums' big screens, while a dedicated TV graphic will be broadcast during the coin toss between the two captains on the pitch.

"In Italy, unfortunately, there is still a widespread belief that watching matches by stealing images is a trick and not a crime that damages the football system and the whole country, stealing huge resources and causing the loss of almost 10,000 workplaces. Piracy kills football is not just a slogan, but a serious call to all the consciences of those who love football" said Lega Serie A CEO Luigi De Siervo.
