SPALLETTI: "TOUGH GAME"

Luciano Spalletti acknowledged Napoli were second best after they snatched a late draw at Cagliari.

The Sardinians took the lead on the hour mark though Gaston Pereiro and went close to doubling their lead several times before Victor Osimhen's header three minutes from time earned the Azzurri a share of the spoils.

"We'll take the draw because we never had the match under our control,” the coach admitted after the final whistle.

"We probably deserved even less from the game considering what Cagliari produced over the 90 minutes. We were handicapped by all our missing players, but we weren’t even able to produce what we wanted.

"After playing in Europe, it is possible not to have the required energy. We should be pleased with this result given the way the game went It was never easy for us.

"Unfortunately, we’re unable to have everyone fit at the same time. As soon as it seems like we have the full squad available we always lose somebody. However, I do need to congratulate players who despite not being 100% still came on to play, like Osimhen and Fabian [Ruiz].”

"It goes without saying that today we wanted to win the game at all costs, but unfortunately we weren’t able to do that. I can’t fault the boys, because I know how much they put into it and everyone did what was humanly possible today.

"At this stage of the season, every match is tough even for the teams who are at the top of the standings. Now we have other important games coming up and we hope to be able to approach them with a full squad available.”
