SPALLETTI: "PENALTIES BROUGHT OUT OUR CHARACTER"

In nervous fashion, Luciano Spalletti’s Inter side progressed through to the TIM Cup quarter-finals on Tuesday night, beating Pordenone on penalties after 120 minutes of goalless play: “We struggled to get the ball moving, particularly during the first half when we tried to settle the match through individuals. As the minutes pass by, games like this become increasingly complicated from a psychological point of view. I know these type of matches and situations.

“Pordenone were physical in midfield. Those who don’t usually play as much struggled with this. We were not at our usual level. We did better during the second half and extra time, playing with more structure. They did really well in terms of defence. Progression through to the next round was really difficult because penalties is always a tricky situation for anyone. Congratulations to Padelli, who made two exceptional penalty saves. The lads demonstrated that they have a strong character and I must give them praise because they managed to advance in the end.”
