SARRI: "THERE'S STILL A LONG WAY TO GO"

Maurizio Sarri praised his side after they secured a commanding 5-0 victory at Cagliari on Monday but was quick to warn that the road to the Scudetto remains long and means heading into “unknown territory”. Five different names made it onto the scoresheet and Napoli rarely looked threatened after the opening minutes at the Sardegna Arena.

"It was game over once we got the second goal today,” the boss explained. “We were in control and never really ran any risks. I'm happy with that because the team were able to enjoy themselves after that and knock the ball about, as they do so well.”

Napoli's third of the night was a case in point, as all 11 Azzurri players touched the ball in the move leading up to Marek Hamsik's goal.

“It's nice because it means the individual joy of the goalscorer is shared and multiplied by the team. It's just a shame I didn't get a touch myself...”.

Meanwhile Sarri's side continue to break one club record after another – 10 consecutive league wins and best points-per-game average at this stage of the season, to name just two – as they stride up the table.

“Looking at the standings, I think we're doing an amazing job but it's also unknown territory for us. Napoli have never had more than 86 points in a season and have never enjoyed this sort of points average before,” the coach added. We'll see how we handle ourselves over the next few months, considering that we've never been in this sort of position before. Our lead over Juventus doesn't count for much. We're going to have to scrap it out point by point and Juventus are a juggernaut of a team. We have 12 games to play in which every moment and every detail could make the difference – luck too sometimes.”
