SALAH: "WE WANT TO IMPROVE ON LAST SEASON"

At the end of the training camp in Pinzolo, Roma forward Mohamed Salah sat down with Sky Sport for an interview. The Egypt international was asked about his expectations for the coming campaign, his thoughts on Edin Dzeko and Kevin Strootman, and his personal targets for 2016-17.

Fifteen goals in the first year. What are your expectations for the new season?
"Last season was very good even if third place is a finish that does not satisfy us completely. We all gave 100%: this year we hope to do better and win something."

Spalletti?
"Spalletti is much loved in Rome, by the club, the players and also by the fans, who remember his first spell here. I like his style of football, he is a winner and always wants to win: he wants to bring a trophy to the club and the same goes for us. He likes to move players around on the field and I think that is a good thing for us because it makes life more difficult for opponents.”

Juve have won the last five championships and has also purchased Miralem Pjanic. You play for second place?
“Juve have bought good players but we are fighting to win the championship. It will not be easy but we will do our utmost. We want to give something important to the club, the city and its fans.”

Thoughts on Kevin Strootman’s return?
“Strootman is a great player who always wants to win, even in training. I like him as a person and as a player, it is a pleasure to see him on the field. He is back stronger than before.”

How about Edin Dzeko?
"Dzeko lacked a bit of luck during last season. I like to play with him as he is a very physical centre-forward, a player who always helps the team even if he does not score. Personally I consider him a great player.”

What does Francesco Totti mean to Mohamed Salah?
"Totti is Totti, I do not know what I can add. For me, it is an honour to play in the same side."

And your future?
"I am very happy to be at Roma, I have a great relationship with all my teammates. I hope to stay here for a long time."
