INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR THE ELIMINATION OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against women, FIGC are in close participation with head coach of the women’s national team Antonio Cabrini, Azzurre captain Melania Gabbiadini and Azzurri captain Gigi Buffon.

Starting from today, photos with Cabrini and Gabbiadini, the hashtag #stopviolence and the slogan ‘Respect women, oppose violence’ will be promoted on the FIGC official web sites and social media accounts to send a message against an issue which is unfortunately still present in society.

“I ask for full respect for all women,” is the start of Antonio Cabrini’s message. “You, men of the future, you all have a duty to actively promote this project so that the issue comes to the fore on an international scale.” Melania Gabbiadi, current captain of the women’s national team, encouraged the reporting of any kind of violence: “More respect is absolutely needed towards every single human being, because it’s this lack of respect that starts every violent act. When women are constantly abused, they must have the courage to denounce it.”

In addition, Azzurri captain Gianluigi Buffon has a message that will be shown on the big screens in the stadiums during matchday 13 of Serie A TIM and matchday 15 of Serie B ConTe.it: “Sporting institutions,” reads Buffon’s video message, “are unanimously behind Italian women’s football which is strongly committed to supporting this campaign against violence against women. Violence against women is a violation of human rights, it’s a crime that can be eradicated by changing the culture in society and raising awareness. Respect women, oppose violence!’ The same message will be sent to all Lega Pro and Fourth Tier clubs, to be read out loudly or displayed in the stadiums next weekend.
