GATTUSO: "THIS WIN SHOWS OUR MATURITY"
Gennaro Gattuso was full of praise for his side after they beat Verona 2-0 at the Stadio Bentegodi to make it four straight wins in Serie A TIM on Tuesday night.
“We showed real maturity to get this win,” said the Azzurri boss after the final whistle. “Even after a demanding week with the Coppa Italia, I always had a good feeling about the game today. The team is training well and we all know we can’t let up at all.
“We focused on quality a lot. We knew Verona were going to be a very physical, aggressive team. We passed the ball around a lot and were able to make them do a lot of running. I liked the attitude and mentality I saw from my team and the players did well in both attack and defence.”
Gattuso also spoke of his satisfaction with some of the players that came back into the team at the Bentegodi.
“I’m pleased with those that came in today,” he said. “Allan played from the start, while [Hirving] Lozano and [Faouzi] Ghoulam made a big contribution in the closing stages. My plan is to make the most of the whole squad because we have quality players.”
There was also a chance for the Azzurri coach to look back over the past few months.
“The team has progressed over the past few months,” he said. “We all have more belief in what we’re doing, but we know that there’s still a long way to go and that we need to work hard. I want to thank the club because they made sure we had everything we needed to continue working properly remotely.”
Gattuso went on to speak about the team’s objectives for the remainder of the season.
“Right now the only thing we need to do is focus on our next game,” he said. “Looking beyond that would be a mistake. I think we produced a great performance today in terms of application and intensity and that’s what I want to see from my players in every game.”
