Gattuso: "A real team win, now I want consistency"

Gennaro Gattuso spoke after Napoli's 3-1 win over Spal at the San Paolo on Sunday evening which was the club's fifth straight league success: "It wasn't easy to get the three points today. It was a hard-fought victory by a real team.

"We're playing well and we're doing as well as we can. These results are the fruit of our hard work during the week and the commitment with which we apply what we've worked on when we're out on the pitch.

"I now want consistency. It'll be difficult to reach the Champions League positions because Atalanta are in fine form, but we have to give our all so that we don't ease off towards the end of the season and also in order to prepare for the future as well as possible.

"This is the sort of game that we have to improve in so that we can put the foundations in place for next year. Most of the squad will remain with us, so these are important tests for everyone in terms of our planning.

"I'm pleased with the way the team responded and all the players who've been coming on in matches to help us out. It'll be hard to improve on how we're doing at the moment.

"We're now turning our attention towards the trip to Bergamo and we'll have to be ready for a clash with a quality side. I'll ask my players to show intensity and consistency. We'll take stock come the end of the season."

The boss also discussed Jose Callejon's goal which restored Napoli's lead in the first half: "I'm happy for Jose and, above all, that we've reached an agreement for this two-month period. He's a player who's given so much for the club. It's a fantastic gesture by Napoli to reward him for his loyalty."
