DI FRANCESCO: "WE SHOWED TODAY WE ARE GOOD ENOUGH"

Eusebio Di Francesco declared himself more than satisfied with his side following Sunday's 2-0 win over AC Milan. Read everything the boss had to say following the game at San Siro, which was clinched thanks to goals from Edin Dzeko and Alessandro Florenzi.

There is still room for improvement in terms of your play, but you’ve secured a great result tonight:
"It was a great performance, mentally too – it was vital that we stayed in the game and maintained our balance. We could have done better at some points, but we did well to put our foot on the gas at the right time and then hold onto the ball."

Are Roma where they need to be?
"Yes. We wanted to continue moving forward and stay close to the top of the table. The postponed game against Samp didn’t help as we’ve played one match less and that takes a toll psychologically. Before today, people said that we only won the easy games. The team is gelling and I can see improvement in general, but today the side showed that they’re good enough."

Can Roma fight for the Scudetto?
"We’re behind the other teams but for now we’ll just focus on winning back those points game by game. We need to focus on working hard and keeping our feet on the ground. Despite the absences we’ve had, the team responded well considering the fact that the players have played three games in a week, including a five-hour trip to Baku."

How much of a bearing did that postponed match with Samp have?
"It means we’re lacking something but at the same time perhaps it meant we could play better against Atletico, given that we were coming off the back of that defeat against Inter. As I’ve said, we would have liked to have played and it’s a shame that we’re a bit behind in the table, but we’re feeling optimistic. The team is improving and has realised that you need to stay tight and be clinical at times in order to compete."

Do you have a message for Vincenzo Montella?
"We’ve swapped results – it was the other way around last year. My affection for him goes beyond what happened today. Vincenzo is a true friend and I wish him all the best."
